Default Is this lifter bad??? 56K Beware!!!

Lots of talk going around on the forum about bad/worn/scored lifter rollers... I have used the MACRO zoom feature on my camera to get as close as I could and still be focused. So it looks much worse in the picture compared to holding it in your hand. Running my fingernail across the roller barely picks up the abrasion...

Is this roller done???

Pretty much a no-brainer...your lifter is toast.

Sorry...how about some details.

Metal transfer, has the car sat for long periods of time without running?. That's not normal for the amount of miles.

Bummer! That lifter is all done. How did it run? Was it noisy at all?

Don't forget to check the cam for damage. If it looks anything like that roller...

Maybe a sign of a 2001 lifter tray casting #10? Check what the casting mark is on the lifter tray. It seems more and more of these are popping up over time. I just got mine back together after discovering a lifter that was worse than that.

Im glad you decided to pull the heads after seeing your pics. A few of my lifters looked like that but were starting to show little pitting, but nothing like those examples in my other pics that you saw. Like the others say, those are pretty close to pitting. It wouldnt have been long. Chalk up another case of f-13 roller lifter syndrome.

New lifter trays. For what its worth, I had a #10 lifter tray, and all the lifters were fine. My bad lifters were collected from the other 3 trays.

OK, what's the deal with lifter trays? Are you saying that the plastic is doing a number on the lifters? That seems strange.

Some lifter trays, specifically those with a #10 cast in the bottom, have been found to have the lifter twisted as much as 10 degrees. this would mean that the roller would not be riding the cam lobe perfectly straight. My #10 tray did not have this problem. I chose to upgrade to the new ls2 trays at a mere $20 for the whole set.

That's odd. I don't understand how a lifter could twist in it's bore with all the spring tension on it. I'm not doubting what your saying, just trying to figure out how a plastic tray could affect a lifter. Strange.
