Default Learning Experience.. Tuning Questions

I had ordered an LS6 cam, lifters, and springs along with PaceSetter long tubes, and a 3" Y-Pipe. The reason I got the LS6 cam was because I found a really good deal on it. I'm not trying to make my car anything spectacular or powerful just yet. I'm still in high school and only 17 years old. I ordered the cam so I could do my first big project on an engine. I tore everything down and had a great time doing it and got the car up and running. Now my dilemma is this: I know the LS6 cam isn't a radical cam or anything, but it doesn't seem like it added any power at all.. Not even a smidgeon. I understand that heads would play a major factor in power production, but would a tune help? If so, where could I get a tune? The places I've seen charge about $500. That's a little steep and I'm just wondering if it would be worth it.

Edit: I guess it did increase the power a little bit. Here are the current specs:

60': 2.2s
0-60: 4.9s
1/8: 8.7s @ 87
Then it starts missing like crazy and slows acceleration.
1/4: 13.3 @ 112

I'm not sure if the miss is because of the tune or not.

The LS6 cam is a good cam for you at this stage. I would check with Wait4me on a tune as he is probably the most reasonably priced and he does a good job from what I know.

I can't imagine that your tune is causing the miss. I was running an LPE GT2-3 cam, which is very similar to (but more aggressive) the LS6 cam, on the stock tune. You have something else going on. Something like that could be fuel related - like low fuel pressure or something like that.

Check your plug wires. Make sure they "snapped" on. Definatley check the back ones, as they are hard to get too. Could be your miss. Start simple.

I was also running the GT2-3 cam on the stock tune. It drove around OK but definitely didn't feel any real power. I gained over 20/20 to the wheels everywhere after it was tuned though. Even though its a mild cam, get it tuned and you should "feel" the difference.
