Default Home port 243's or go with TSP CNC 243's?

Hey guys, I recently experienced some cam walk which in turn gouged the crap out of my cam(one lobe), and I now have to remove the heads and replace my lifters/camshaft on my ZO6.

Here's my question: Should I home port my 243's or go with a set of the CNC 243's from TSP? According to Jason the CNC'ed heads will clear the G5X3 that I was/will be running, but I'm not quite sure of their chamber size and if it will increase compression.....Which I would like to do, but without flycutting.

If staying with my stock heads and porting them, would it be worthwhile to install a set of Cometic's to increase compress. or will it not clear with a G5X3/114.

I appreciate the tips/advice and if anyone has any write-ups on home head porting I would grealty appreciate it!

Alan

I agree. You can't beat a CNC for consistency. If you want to get ur hands on them, just do a little finishing work to them to get rid of track lines and such. Ported 243's are really cheap these days. I went with Patriot Performance and couldn't have been happier! I'm sure TSP will treat u great too.

Take a look at our 243 castings. They are priced vry reasonably. We cand do a set with 2.00"/1.55" valves and our Patriot Gold spring kit for only $1135.00 shipped to you anywhere in the US. We have an excellent CNC program that provides great flow using a 227+/- intake runner.

Unfortunately I had a lifter bite the bullet and it took out a cam lobe on the ol' G5X3......So now that the engine is disassembled in the garage, I'm going to reinstall a set of heads....

The price on your heads was good, but I was set on the big cam but without flycutting.

The car made 437/396 cam only though, and did run like a champ!

Here is your problem.
You have a cam that is big and dosen't have a ton of room on stock heads.
You can use the TSP heads and the G5X3 cam but milling for extra compression is almost out of the question.
10.5:1 will be a okay compression ratio and should make some good power with the G5X3. Other options are the dart heads for like 1200 bucks, these are a 62cc head which will gain a little extra compression without loosing any P/V clearence (acturally gains like .007)
The TSP 62cc dart head would be nice, or a set of ET performance 11* heads would be great. You could run the X3, and have 11.5:1 CR W/O flycuting.

The only problem I have with the ETP's is the wait.....I've been on a waiting list for performance parts before that has taken nearly 6 months and it sucks!

I do like the idea of the ETP's though....

AFR's are on a 6 week wait....

The Dart's have come across my mind as well but they are on backorder also....

I can't win....

Dude, if you want more compression then maybe you should check out Patriot. They can get you a set of the LQ9 heads using their LS6 CNC program while offering you any combustion chamber volume you want to get that compression up there. They weld and machine the chamber to get the volume so no decking the heads is done so you keep stock piston to valve clearance for that big cam.
