Default what kind of power from 6.0 iron head.

i may have access to a 1999 6.0 iron head motor with very low miles.i know these have great potential but what kind of power with cam and 5.3 truck heads?

as far as the iron heads they're trash, the 6.0 short block itself with a good cam and set of nice heads should be a good performer.

The 5.3 heads are going to shroud the 4.000 bore cylinder with the iron block but will give higher compression. It's up to your goals/analysis to determine if that's worth it.

IMO, an iron headed engine will make more power than an aluminum headed engine, givin the same build up- compression and fuel. With that sayed, you are giving the edge to the iron head on this type of comparison. An iron head does a better job of hold heat in and heat is energy, hold heat in the chamber to create more power. But, with the aluminums ability to shed heat faster, it can withstand more static and dynamic compression and with that create more power on the same givin fuel. I think overall the aluminum headed engine is the way to go because of this and the addition of lighter weight.

iron heads were the **** in like the 60s, noone uses them now unless they're in Vernon, North Carolina or something...
