Rattling noise on cold starts...help!!!
I have recently been hearing a rattling noise from my engine when it is started cold and is warming up. The noise is heard between 1,000 and 1,500 rpms. I have been told it is most likely a bent pushrod or a loose rocker arm. Is there any way to determine which one it is without taking everything apart. Thanks for the advice.

If it only does it when it's cold it might just be piston slap. You could be a little starved for oil up top too, until the engine warms up. That would probably be due to nasty shiznit accumlated around oil ports and on top of the heads. (You wouldn't believe how bad some heads look when the valve covers come off for the first time!) If it was a bent PR or loose rocker, you'd hear it all the time.

If there is a lot of "gunk" in the oil supply ports, do you thing I could add some
oil additive to help clean it out or is it pointless...thanks.

do yourself a favor and check the 02 sensors. they have this stupid collar on them that will rattle when cold, once they swell (when they're warm) the rattling goes away
