Default Is Dampener External Balanced?

Since the dampener on an LS1 is not keyed, I'm assuming there's no counter weighting of the dampener, and external balancing is on the flywheel/f'plate. Basically, you can install the dampener at any rotational location. Anyone?

Thanks,

You are correct, just put it on no special positioning required. Just went through this on the one we just finished up and confirmed with my local LS1 guru before I did it.

Default LS1 Internally/Externally Balacned?

I found that the dampener is not counterbalanced. How about the flexplate or flywheel? are they counterweighted? Is the motor internally balanced? I noticed in some of the catalogs for flywheels there seems to be conflicting information; some say externally balanced flywheels, and some say zero balance.

The engines are internally balanced. Flywheel and damper aren't weighted on F body's but are on the on a vette.

To expand on Mike's words, the 'Y' cars, but not 'F' cars are selectively fine-balanced after assembly by inserting pins as needed in pre-drilled holes in the flywheel. For what it's worth, a recent balance job that I am familiar with on an '02 ZO6 required the pins to be removed and cut in half to perfect the balance.

That's what I suspected. Is this also true for the LSx series of truck motors?
Thanks,

Not sure, but I'd be really surprised if the trucks were balanced any different than Camaro/Firebird.

What really freaked folks out for a while was the fact that there's no balance pads on the pistons or rods. Reason being, they're cast out of metal powder, which not only produces a more uniform and stronger cast part, but can match weights of individual pieces to within roughly the same tolerances that an engine balancer would adhere to.

Just thought I'd try and sound smart... y'all probably knew this before I ever knew what an LS1 was.
