Default Ten over bore on a 98?

I was wondering if it would be safe to go with a 3.908 piston in a 98 LS1. I search for it, and most people say 3.905 is as big as you can go, but is .003" really going to make a difference? Thats only .0015" bigger if you look at it as how deep the extra size will cut into the cylinder wall. I would like to know, because I already have the 3.908 pistons, and a 98 model block.

You're not supposed to. The OEM sleeve looks thicker up top, but if you look at it from the bottom side, it is pretty thin. All that said and out of the way, a few of us have still done it. I checked with several forum members before doing it and they didnt (and still havent had any problems).

The .010 MAX overbore is only on the '01+ blocks.

I think the pre 2001 has a .040 MAX clean-up hone only.

Pre 2001 is .004 clean up hone, not .040

No, I never have enough time. Between the job, wife, kids, snowobarding, and the kids sports I have very little time. I've been porting the Fast 90 intake over the last couple nights.I believe I will finally start clsing up the block next week.

Cool, poor lil' V-6 chassis has no idea what kind of twist is in store for it.

So would you order a set of 3.905 pistons, or just go with the 3.908 pistons if you already have the 3.908's?

I would go with a set of 3.903's personally. 3.908's might be ok if you aren't spraying the major crap out of it, but then again what happens if the cylinder wall cracks. You're SOL. You'll just have to decide.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that. I didn't follow the rules and over bored as did Sam98WS6 but neither of us are planning on adding a power adder (NOS, BLower, SC). If you are planning to go with a power adder, then I would suggest that you stay in the .004 hone or get a different block.
