All I know is the 01+ have the better oil pumps, I think your oil pump is the same as an ls6 design. Ls1howto.com shows how to install but not positive of it shows how to port.

They dissasemble the oil pump and perform a simple port job on the oil pump outlet and install a shim to increase spring pessure on the oil bleed-off spring.

SLP sells the shim and it installs by removing an 8mm allen plug on the side of the pump. Add thread locker and reassemble.

If you decide to do it yourself and need torque specs, let me know.

cool,
i think i will do it myself, how much for that SLP shim, does it increase oil pressure,
also how much porting is involved or is it just a clean up port-polish job?

I'm also interested in how much porting is needed. Has anyone made a DIY guide?

I've dis-assembled and measured pre and post 2001 pumps (LS1 / LS6), and they were identical. Even had the same casting numbers on the case. IMO no such thing as an "LS6" pump. If you ever had one apart you'd agree.

A member once posted some pics I think. I used his method/pics to port the inlet and outlet on a stock LS6 pump. I changed oil pumps since I was doing a cam swap and my car is a '98 Z28 which after researching was one of the model years that supposedly had a fairly high failure rate. I never had any issues (49K miles) with the stock '98 pump but changed it anyway. With the ported LS6 oil pump I gained 5-8 psi even though I did not remove that much metal using dremel and file.
It will be obvious to you when you look at the oil pump where to remove some material. I'll see if I can find the pics. PM me your email address.
