Default New motor fires! Major concerns though...

Put my new motor and tranny in this past week. FIred up on the first try. One thing really concerns me though. I am getting a large amoung of white smoke from the intake manifold. After I shut it down, and open the tb blade, there is a white cloud inside. Is that normal?

While running no smoke comes out of the valve cover breathers. Its more of a whispy smoke that hovers at the top of the intake manifold

Im starting to think that its actually smoke being sucked in from the engine bay (headers smoking like crazy)

I did put about a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder before firing...

Check your timing. Or could be a intake valve sticking open a little bit.

Don't know what the details of the motor are but I think you're over-analyzing (not unexpected after this kind of job). Let it run and break in, keep an eye on the normal signs - smoke from the tailpipe, oil or coolant contamination, noises etc. If it all looks and sound s good it probably is. The only parallel I can draw is that cabuerated engines did that all the time when you shut them off. I wouldn't worry about it if all else looks and sounds good.

Well the only reason I am concerned is that it is ALOT of smoke. There doesnt seem to be any backfiring through the intake though.

Any other suggestions?
