Default Why is my car sooo slow?

Anyhow, I have had lifter noise for about 2 years now. Finally decided to change out the cam & lifters. Decided on the Patriot 226/226, Initial impressions are good. See atached pic of old Comp cam.

HAHA....HOLY CRAP! What caused that? Looks like you had no preload on your lifters? There's a huge groove where the lifter would be.

And you ran 2 years with that kind of noise? Why did you wait so long to investigate?

Yes new lifters, trays, cam. It actually didn't sound too terribly bad, but I have a nasty habit of procrastinating.

What car do you have? I'm planning on putting the patrios 226/226 585cam in my 2001 SS camaro, i was just wondering how it ran, and sounded? Have you had your car dynoed since then?

"Have you had your car dynoed since then?"

Goodness man; I just put it in today. Car is a 99 Camaro; I can get a sound clip and send it if you like. I will say this; my old cam (Comp 212 / 218 .522 / .529 114) had really good low end torque and would really come alive around 3500, but peeter of around 5500. This cam has a way more distinctive idle and is really linear. It also likes to rev more. I am running a stock tune and haven't had any issues yet. Also, old numbers were 359hp / 370tq not sure if I will even bother with a dyno on this one.

That'd be great. You say it's running on a stock tune? Everyones told me if I didn't have it tune'd after I put that cam in, it'd be extremely rough on the engine?

What other mods have you done to your car if any?

Thanks,
Caleb

Yes, you will need a tune. He can get away with it for a while if he wants b/c I'm assuming he had tuning for his prior cam and this one isn't that big of a jump. Either way, always need to tune after doing cam.

And where do you think all the crap off those lobes went??
My bet is, it's stuck in the sides of the pistons, and in the bearings.. My suggestion is you take a look, B4 you drive over the crank..

Haha! Drive over the crank, that's awesome. This is so true. Have you changed your oil in the last 2 years? Didn't you see clumps of metal shavings stuck to the magnet and shiney particles in the oil?
