Default 5 springs broken....good thing they were double springs..(pics are in)

PICS are now posted here.

Good thing the inner springs held up. Also, all of the valve seals were history, thats where all my oil was going. The pistons were caked up like crazy with burnt oil too. The pics are nuts. But I cleaned one and it looks like new. Have to spend a few more hours cleaning the rest. The heads came off perfectly in about 2 hours with the engine still in the car, and I have ARP head studs
Cylinder walls are perfect and the sleeves haven't moved. Also, the gaskets were not blown, they were perfect.
The pics are too big to host, pretty crazy looking though. If someone wants to host them I can e-mail them to you.

Just to show it was done with the engine still in the car, with ARP head studs. There was some na'sayers

drivers side:

passengers side, you can see between the sides that all my valve seals were totally gone.

They look brand new after they're cleaned.

How the hell did you break 5 springs? Were these all at once?

Well, who knows how long they were like this. The engine ran perfect, zero noise and very smooth. I've been buring a shitload of oil and a little coolant so I figured I had a blown head gasket(s). We pulled them off and there 5 springs broken. The outer springs only and some of the spring dampers that were in there. The guy at the head shop said when damper breaks it will score the spring and make them break soon after.

He's a badass and he's rebuilding them.

No, he has to re-machine all the exhaust valve spring seats, there were no cups under them and the aluminum is thrashed. Kind of strange that only the intake valve springs had cups under them. The metal I've been finding in my oil pan were the thin little shims that were placed under the exhasut valve springs. Then he's doing a complete valve/seals, spring kit. Whatever it needs.

They're only LS1 heads, not even LS6. The flow sheet I have from Agostino, from 4 years ago says 304cfm @.600 and 231cfm exhasut. Plus a stock TB still So yes, I'm chokin the bajeezus out of 436ci. It'll make about 500/503. 242/242 .610/.610 114 lsa. I want the ETP 265's and the Harrop intake and a bigger cam, all in time

I have never once put my car in reverse or drive before letting it warm up for 2 full minutes, minimum. Than I drive it like a granny until I see the temp needle start moving. Just a rule of mine.

What happened, accodring to the guy at the head shop was: The spring dampers on each of the 5 springs that broke, scored the main springs which caused them to let go. Only the springs with broken spring dampers had broken springs. Coincidence, I think not

Are Patriot Golds any good? These were supposed to be ARE heads all the way.

All springs look the same these days, so it was a guess. I like my Gold's. They were awfully cheap though, $260 w/ retainers, locks, seats, and seals. They have held up well though, although I am using a puni cam.

Mine were Manley, just looked at my old spec sheet.

What are some good double springs? Not top of the line, but damn good ones?

I had a broken 918 single spring (on the first coil at the bottom) and didn't know it because it held together. Found out when I removed the heads and took the stock valves out as the heads were being to WCRCH to be CNCed. I thought I was lucky until I read yours held together with 5 broken springs. You should play the Powerball.
