Default Best way to clean burnt oil off pistons.............

I'm all ears. It took me 20 minutes to clean one of them with a razor, going very slowly and not toushing the cylinder walls.

Cool, I'll try them. What happens if I scratch a piston surface? Not bad, just a tiny hairline type with the razor.

This stuff on the pistons (oil) is like stone on there. Its almost completely filled in a few of the valve notches. This stuff needs to be broken down with some kind of chemical first to make it easier.

I just took my time with a blade, but man its tedious bending over the fender to do it, and trying not to touch the cylinder walls.

Ranger will hopefully get the pics up in my other thread.

Doesn't that just get poured into the fuel tank to clean injectors and stuff. I doubt if it would take this stuff off, its friggin hard.

I tried liquid seafoam once and it didnt work all that great. My besy results were from using aceton on a plastic dish sponge. Raise all the pistons up to TDC to clean them so you dont have to worry about the walls. Make sure youre careful with the acetone, it may rot your seals out if it gets on them. Also, the acetone works great at taking off any head gasket remnants. Just make sure its all evaporated before applying the new gaskets. It seems to disolve the viton rubber some are coated with.

Which seals are you talking about? The acetone can't hurt the rings can it?

Is it cool to turn the engine either direction for TDC using the crank bolt and a breaker bar?

The gaskets looked brand new and came off in one piece, almost nothing left on the block or heads. Felpro. I got the Cometics (.051) for re-install.
