Default Let's talk iron 6.0L build.....414 cid.

What are your thoughts on taking a iron 6.0L and adding a 4.125 crank to make a 414? Can a good shortblock be built for $2K?

Just looking for some recommendations and/or opinons...

A good short block would have over 2k in rods and a crank.... not to mention machine work pistons...

I've only begun to look at internals. I've been trying to research what would be involved with building a 6.0L shortblock for my 98.

Do they make rotating assemblies that would fit the stock bore but include a longer rod and longer throw crank? I'm going to check TByrne, I know they have a lot of that stuff.

I know my original questions are vague, but I'm not an idiot when it comes to engines, it's just that this is the first time i've seriously considered something like this. I'm looking for any input on the setup....preferably a budget build that would produce 475 rwhp naturally aspirated.

Hey there, check out FFHP. I got my 408 shortblock iron their and it seems to be working fine so far. They were very helpful in answering all my questions (even though some took a couple of days) and very reasonable in price.

Oops, I am retarded, didnt read where you wanted to build it yourself. I did notice on my shortblock that there looked to be a lot of clearancing work. Did not look like much fun to me. Plus, I looked into how much it would cost to have Wheeler Racing(in blaine) do some machining on the block and I would just assemble. After everything, it would have costed almost the same as how much I paid to have a sponsor build one.

you will have 3500 or better unless you have some crazy hook up or can do a lotof the work yourself.
Parts will easily be over 2500 though with the price of the block, berrings, rings, pistons, rods, crank, plus the machine work.
Plan to spend 3500+ very easily, and even more once you include head gaskets, front cover gasket, oil pan gasket etc.
You will have 300+ in gaskets.

hmm...a pair of head saskets cost me $35 last time and a gasket kit through SDPC is $36.

All the small parts do add up....

BTW, it's a 6.0 shortblock for $350...so that's why I am considering it.

i figure about 1k in rods and pistons
rings around 150
crank for 1k
bearings for 125
rod bolts for 100
gaskets to finish assembly 250-300
and another 200 or so for random sensors that need replacing.

comes to around 2875 without any machine work and the cost of the block.
looking around 300-400 to punch it .030 and have it line honed.

.060 over if you have it sonic tested and it can go that far.

I just got through doing just a stock short block with new rings, bearings, hone, line hone and misc gaskets/sensors for around 2500. It can add up fast, not to mention take a lot of time.
