Default 0.040" Thickness head gasket options?

In a few weeks I'm going to be helping a buddy install my old AFR 205cc heads on his 03 Vette. I've been doing some research on head gaskets looking for an alternative head gasket with a compression thickness around 0.040" that is cheaper than Cometics. Does Fel-Pro or another manufacturer have a 0.040" head gasket for a stock bore LS1 that is reasonable $?

I have sure heard some bad things about the fel-pros....an inordinate number of leaks....of course just like cometics some swear by them and some swear at them...

For some reason, I thought the factory GM gasket for a 2000 (standard graphite, NON MLS) had a compressed thickness of 0.054. Maybe I'm wrong. I have a ticking sound coming from #7 and think it might be a lifter, so if the heads have to come off, I want to go with a slightly thinner head gasket to get a better quench area.

A quick question, stock bore is what... 3.989 or something like that? Why does summit only list 4.000 and 4.060 as bore options for gaskets?

Thanks guys.
