6.0L H/C or 408 62ChevyII
Just purchased a 2003 6.0L/4L80e with 25k on it. Motor will be going in a 62 Nova with Heidt's front clip. Car will be a weekend warrior/play toy. Car will see very little track time, mostly a street cruiser.
My question is:
I'm looking for about 400-450rwhp.
Can I get there with a head, cam, intake, bolt-on LQ4 motor and still be streetable? Or should I just go for a mild 408 build.
Car will have 4L80e, probably around a 3000 stall, backhalfed suspension consists of ladder bars and a narrowed Ford 9" with 4.56 gears.
**By mild 408 I mean eagle rotating assembly, forged piston, LS6 intake (no big dollar FAST stuff), some nice LS6 or equivalent ported heads. Some where around 11:1 compression.
Just looking for other opinions and or options.
Thanks...

depending on your definition of streetable you can get there with bolt-ons and cam only, long as you don't mind spinning almost 7k
Most decent head/cam setups can get you 400rwhp in an auto, for closer to 450 you'll want to go with the bigger cams (230+ duration, of course depending on your cam grinder of choice). You actually can make 500rwhp with stock cubes and heads/cam but it requires a pretty radical cam and expensive heads. Look into Patriot, PRC, or TEA heads and a mild cam (224+ duration) for around 400rwhp, 450rwhp you might want to consider stepping up to AFR or ETP heads with a decent cam (230+ duration), the better heads will make it easier.
for cam only, look into a TRex or similar type cam and all the bolt ons...and new rod bolts

I'd say a nice 408 would be pretty awesome. Looks like a good starter car but I don't know if i would trust those bolt in roll bars on the front subframe Should be a nice project all in all. The body looks pretty good, not all rusted out or nothing.

Thanks for the input.
No I don't want to shift at 7k to make my power.
I was hoping for more of a 2500-6000 power band with plenty of low end torque.
So I guess the 408 would be the best option.
What about a cam in this power band for a 408?
