cam+springs...is that all that is needed??
i am pretty new to the world of cams and i am just wondering if i upgrade my 98 ls1 camaro to say, a ls1 asa 226 cam or ls6 cam or tr224 cam, i know i have to upgrade the springs for sure, but is that all that is prety much needed to install with the new cam? i heard that you dont have to change to new pushrods, but it is a good idea, and what about retainers, do you have to change those as well? can my ls1 have a newer cam with just the change of better springs?

just keep this in mind. all of the valve train is for the stock cam. i would change timing chain w gear,p-rod,lifters,springs (retainers, seals etc...) if cam u install is higher lift and/or increase duration then change all valve train components. you will feel better and not to mention, peace of mind. just my .02 . good luck.

Oh yeah. Do NOT put the timing cover back on without changing the oil pump first! The pre-'00 cars and especially the '98 years are known to have oil pumps that lose pressure suddenly driving down the road and in 5 seconds your engine is toast. -Joshua
