Default High Mileage cam question?

Yet another cam question...

'93 rx7, '99 ls1, t56, 1 3/4" long tubes, dual 2.5" exhaust, x pipe, no cats, CAI, LS6 intake, 3.90 gears.

Its a daily driven toy. Gets driven at least 40-50 miles per day round trip. Weekends consist of auto'x, drift events, or drag racing. Possibly some road racing in the future.

Looking for a good sound. Ready to get some lope. Right now its a total sleeper and i'm tired of it. Can handle some roughness, but dont need anything crazy. As pansy as it sounds, I like my 30 mpg so not looking to kill that.

Mainly wondering how much cam and what kind of springs I need to stand up to long term driving (40 miles daily, 300+ mile road trips, etc) and extended high rpm racing (mild auto x'ing up to road racing). Longevity, and power under the curve are key for the cam. Woud much rather have 3.5k power than 6.5k power.

Dont have any plans for NOS, but when I built the car I didn't have any plans for a cam, and that has changed so...who knows.

You're looking at a smaller cam then. 224/224 112 should be good. Some of my friends have or had them and they lope nicely on 112 with free flowing exhaust. Bigger cams will loose down low torque.

What does your car weight? Did you ran it in the 1/4 yet? That's some nice setup. I bet you surprise alot of people. Now everyone will think those cars are uber fast.

Car weighs about 2900lbs. Only 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile tracks around here. So far I've had bad luck at the strip. Rained out, broken diff, etc - so no times yet....Looking for 1/8 mile times this weekend.

i would personally go a little bigger. that is a light car. i have the G5X1 which is a 228/232 on a 112lsa. i love it but want bigger now. i drive my car about 350-400 miles a week and still get 25-26 mpg on the highway with it in my Z. i would go at least a 228/228 just my .02

I just got a MTI G1 on a 115 lsa with +4 timing....so it's a high revving cam.

Specs = 228/232 .588/.575

EDIT: Durr, forgot the reason I'm posting..

...actually I don't really have a reason, but I bet the TR224 would be a nice little cam to have, I'm sure it wouldnt' affect gas mileage that much. Be sure to check torquecentral to see what other FD/LS1 guys have cam-wise.

For the sound you have too look at the valve events, the more overlap the more lope, as a general rule. Basically though the lower the LSA the more lope the cam will have. A TR224 on a 112LSA sounds like something you may consider.

Your car is lighter than a F-Body but you still should consider the power under the curve. Larger cams move the power band up in the rpm range, but your lighter car may love that since you have less weight to move down low.

You may also want to look at the TR230 or MTI X1 "Reverse Split" cams. They tend to make relatively good power with strong under the curve showing. Although I may be a little biased since we run a MTI X1... When we were shopping though, I was looking for Daily Driver behaviour, and the strong showing of torque to get our stalled/auto car moving.
