Default New Timing Cover Seal OK?

I just installed a new GM timing cover seal and I was able to push it into the cover most of the way with finger pressure. I taped it the rest of the way down with a small hammer. Should the seal have a tighter fit into the cover? I tried pushing it out with my fingers and it wouldn't move. Should it be OK or should I take it out (which will probably require a new one) and put silicone around it before re-installing? Thanks

Should be good - a little bit of the seal is still sticking above the cover right?

Yea, very little the seal is not recessed.

I apply a thin coat of black GM Silicone Sealer part #2346192 to the outer edge of the seal before I press it into the cover. Been doing that ever since GM changed the design on the seal.

I would have done that if I new about the fit before installing. My question is, should I take the new one out, which I know won't come out without needing to be replaced or will it be OK the way it is? Thanks

I'd call it good, it should be all right. a little bit of anaerobic sealer or any other sealer in a small amount is a good thing. A little extra bit of security!
