Default upgrading cam from 224/224

Looking at Thunder racings cams again and I have their 224/224 thinking of upgrading to the TRAK cam 231/234 .640/.590 112 LSA. I have comp 918 springs and harden push rods.

will this cam be to much for them? Also do you all recommend another cam?

i think it will be fine. i believe the comp 918s are good up .600 lift. pushrods will be fine. just make sure you get the car retune and you'll be all good

as far as another cam goes it just depends on what your looking for. i believe the trak cam will have good down low power.

also i believe you made a typo on the specs. it should be .540/.590 right? not .640.

good luck

I totally agree, your 918s are rated to .600, .620 would push the limits, .640 is beyond.

Get some dual springs, you may need to replace the 918s anyway depending on mileage...

I know it said that wasn't sure if it was new springs since I've last done my swap a few years back.

Geoff is making a custom grind for me right now using those LSK lobes, but yea he told me flat out not to run a PRC spring or patriot but the Comp 921 with .050 coil bind. With that he said i'll be good to 7k all day and should last about as long as the XE-R lobe.

You just have to remember that trak cam is bigger then it seems becuase of that LSK lobe on the intake. At .2 lift it will act like a 236/234 XE-R, but it will make big power.

Holy crap, these 921s are $400 for springs alone.

I don't think I can afford these LSK lobes. lol

haha i know they are expensive, i kinda got sucked into them. Orginaly ordered the PRC springs then Geoff pushed me hard to exchange them for the 921's, but at that point i already bought them so i was just like fine whats another 200.....LOL

Nice haha. So PRC springs won't work well with LSK lobes?

Don't you have to replace the springs every year or so on those aggresive lobes? That $400 can add up to a ton of money.

well i'm sure you can run them, he just told me that to get the most out of the cam, and for the cam to last the longest you should run a 921. Basicly he didnt want me to bitch if somthing went wrong.

But anyways from what he told me, if you use the 921 spring and shim it righ tit whould last as long as a xe-r. Told me to just check them once a year.
