Default Mail order Tuning Anyone?

Im geting ready to to install a tr230 cam, comp 918 springs, titanium retainers, and pushrods on my 01 M6 TA. Ive been hearing stuff about this mail order tuning and was wondering if it would work for someone like myself who is installing a cam. Basically I dont want the car to stall. Is a tune even necessary? Will it hurt the engine without one?
Thanks guys

You should get a tune, mail order will rough you in, but no substitute for a real dyno tune. Every car is different. you may also need to drill the TB

ball park mail order is like 400, from what I have heard, I would definatlely go with the sponcers, they know LS1's the best.

for the cost it's not worth it IMO, spend the money on HpTuners or LS1 edit and that way you can perfect your own tune. A "ball park" tune is just that , it will get you in the ball park, but who wants that...if your spending the money, might as well get it the way you want it.

I sent my computer to rapid motor sports to have it tuned so it would safe to drive it to them for a full dyno tune cost me $170.

I wouldn't waste money on a mail order tune, unless you've got lots of money and no time.

If you've got time, get HP tuners, tune it yourself.

LIES!!!! I just ran 11.27@122 with a TR230 and a TSP MAIL ORDER TUNE. Give them a call, they did great by me. I have never had a problem with mailorder tunes, they are not optimum, but if you choose the right outfit they can get you damn close. Here's my thread I just made in the drag racing section....

you couldn't have argued my point any better, I'm not saying mail order tunes are crap, I'm just saying that for the money you'll spend you could buy a program and do all the tuning you want, when you want, and without sending your computer off blah blah blah. It's all about what your comfortable with, some people just aren't comfortable with tuning thier own cars but the education is free..right here on ls1tech and you can always upload your origional file so it's not like you can mess it up.....

Im from overseas & had MTI & TSP mail order tune for my old Camaro SS & my new Z,both worked fine for me but a dyno tune is more accurate.

Where are you from? There's a lot of people that have HPTuners and wideband capabilities that would probably help you get a pretty decent tune for a lot cheaper (and better) than a mail order tune.

We do mail order tuning for 150 + shipping. Jason is our tuner here and I can't even begin to think about how many pcm's he has tuned and always has good feedback on. If your interested give us a call and we can tell you a little more about what goes into a mail order tune.

Ok, that's pretty cheap.

How well do the mail order tunes work for part throttle and idle tuning? That crap seems to take forever to get it right from logging and tuning with HP tuners.

If you want a mail order tune try to shop around the sponsors and find someone that has experience with a setep as close as possible to yours. They've probably done a dyno tune with that setup and that will get you pretty close. Every engine is different and a mail order tune will always be more conservative. Goodluck
