Default 8.1L pass emissions for 95' 5.7L TBI

Hey I need to find out if a new 8.1L big block 496 will pass emissions for my 95 GMC Sierra with the 5.7L 350 TBI engine. That is a lot more cubes and with atleast cam, intake, exhaust probably more I need to make sure it will pass. I have a chance to pick up the 8.1 with 5k miles on it for under $1500. Please let me know what you think ASAP!

Thanks,
Mike

Does your state have strict laws governing modifications to cars/trucks? As far as the 8100 package, I had a week long class on it in Wixom, Mi a couple of years ago. The workhorse "p" chassis uses that engine and supporting cats. Those motorhome chassied engines burn soo clean, you cant kill yourself from CO poisoning!!! REMEMBER this is ONLY for an 8100 running AT FACTORY SPECS AND with the CATS FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY. Oh well, someone will still think they can bong hit the tailpipe of their open headdered cammed out 8100 anyway. Anyway, the system that GM puts out in the 8100 is the cleanest big block yet to date!! The combustion works soo well that GM did away with the egr in this motor for 03 or 04! I'd say your chances of passing a sniffer are excellent.

That is great to hear. No the state isnt too stupid about mods yet. Just emissions and sometimes the cops give you a hard time about really loud exhaust etc... but im all set with that. I hold reserve deputy status in county sheriffs dept, once they know they just tell me to have a nice day. I will have cats on there but probably deffinately cam it. True dual exhaust...if the shop is nice maybe I can convince them to just put the tester in one pipe on one will ever know! Anywho thanks for the input it was great help. Do you think $1500 is reasonable for this engine with 5k miles on it? No accessories I dont think though. A T56 will hook up to it too right?

thanks,
Mike

The bolt patterns are the same still I believe. The motorhomes have big allisons on them so I cant be 100%. $1500 sounds good. You might try to get your cert before the cam change. Make shure your fuel pump/system is in good shape. Those things run 55psi on the fuel like the Ls1 but take more volume. Good luck!! We had a bunch come through our dealership with plug and wire problems. You may keep that in mind if you get it in and its doggy or sputtering. They seem more prone to ignition foul ups. Maybe they're straightened out by now but I'd see them with 1 or 2 plug wires bad from the factory.
