Default Pistons and rods?

I was wondering, Ive never removed or installed a gen.3 engine but a buddy of mine said that if you just wanted to replace the rods and pistons that the motor didnt need to come out. He said you could do it with the otor in the car, is this true? or if not can the motor come out from the top because I dont have a lift?

Theres a lot of stuff in the way. You could if you removed the k-member and supported the engine with a lift. Probably more trouble that it is worth. Once you get the engine out of the car and on a stand it will be so much easier.

You can get the engine out the top. I took mine out that way and it was no problem at all.
