Default Cam choice, help decide please

This is for a 98 LS1 in a 69 Corvair weighing 3,000 pounds with a 12 bolt and 4.11's.
This is for a cruising car and some track times but just to be a fun driver.
The Thunder 224 has been considered.

Sounds like the TR224 is a good choice for your goals, defiantly a mild cam that has been proven time and time again to make good power with stock or aftermarket heads. What transmission?

4L60.
He is unsure of cam and stall choice.

He said he would be real happy if it went low 12's on the engine. I kinda laughed. With that weight he would be there on a stock cam. He will likely put a small shot on it too.

His name is Mike Meyers. I know, like from Halloween or Austin Powers. He is from Wood River and is a retired GM Mechanic.

A 224 will be good matched with a 3500+ converter but if he is going to spray, Yank has some nice nitrous converters. Most guys that have larger converters are happy and they drive just like stock after lockup on the street.

Jake, that is a badass ride! I'd say just go with the traditional TR224 and 3200 converter. That thing is going to fly

I told him that. He isn't sure if he wants to go much bigger than a 3,000 stall. I told him no lower than a 3,000.
Keep in mind though a 3,000 doesn't act the same in all cars. You have to take into account the vehicle weight and engine output and gears.

I think a TR 224 and a 3,200 and that thing will be solid mid 11 material and have a Keith McCord tune in it. But I would love to see this car with a Futural FM-10 or 11 in it.

Update, the LS1 went in and a vig 3,200. It dropped #7 and is going through a rebuild.
