Is it normal for my ( brandnew) Tsp LS6 ported oil pump to be only pushing 18-21 psi when the engine warms up and 40 when i give it gas?? I know its installed correctly because i checked it over 3 times. WHAT GIVES?

That's not normal, my stock LS6 pump puts out 35-40 psi at hot idle. Pinched o-ring on pick up tube is your problem would be my guess.

Not normal at all. TSP makes a great pump. Thats why I made sure I got one. When I installed mine oil pressure at idle is at 55psi. Then once she heats up it drops to about 50 psi. You really need to check or maybe you have a high mileage motor and the bearings are worn.

Not normal. I ported the inlet and outlet on a stock LS6 oil pump purchased from a Chevy dealership. 60 psi cold idle and 42 psi hot idle. Never drops below 40 psi. Versus the '98 oil pump (45K miles) 45-50 cold idle and 32-38 hot idle.

My tsp ls6 pump (just installed it) puts out about 55psi cold and 35 to 38 psi hot. Before I adjusted my fans for the 160 stat, the motor temp was getting up to 210* or so and that caused the hot psi to drop down to 30 psi or so. Pretty sure that's normal.

But 18-21 psi.... something isn't right!

it will stay at about 30 psi warm idle for about 45 sec. then the needle starts bouncing a little and starts dropping.if i increse the rpms to about 1500-1600 it jumps up to 40 and cruising around town it sits on 39-40 warm. I have a MS3 cam. could the lope just be to big and makin the engine drop rpms to much and cause it to fluctuate. I checked the o-ring 3 times. i even used a very small amount of silacone to hold it in place. It is shimmed out to compensate for the double roller and i checked the shim and its lined up properly also.

Are you sure your sending unit is not the problem? If you have a friend with a ls1/ls6, see if you can try his sending unit. Just a thought.

I'd check O-ring first, especially with the double roller/shim setup. I've been bending the pickup tube assembly further out with a small prybar so that the O-ring is more centered in the oil pump after shimming and it seems to help. It could be that the pickup tube is just not centered in the oil pump inlet. I wouldn't use silicone as it could push into the pump after you tighten the bolt down, which could also be the problem if some silicone made its way into the oil pump pressure regulator.

Since you have to pull the pump anyway, pull the 8mm allen plug off the bottom of the pump and remove the valve to make sure nothing is holding it open, it would be pretty obvious if some trash was in it. If you find something lodged in it, then make sure to clean it out good before reassembly. Use a new O-ring when you put it together, and instead of silicone, use some engine assembly lube, or even a light dab of wheel bearing grease. It will help the o-ring to stay in place and not "roll-over" as its being installed.

This is the exact way Danny@Lethal set mine up since I am running the double roller chain.

Theres two different O rings depending on your pick up tube...are you sure your using the right one?
