Ticking, Need Help!

Ticking, Need Help!
Well, the other night I was driving home and messing around a bit WOT to red line here and there and right before I got to my house I downshifted into 2nd at about 35 and brought it up to about 60. When I got into the garage I heard a decently loud ticking . I thought it was just another loose plug like I've had before, but I just checked them and none are loose. It ticks from idle up and is harder to hear the higher it goes, but I've noticed when I hold the revs at about 1k it is the loudest. It actually seems to almost stop sometimes while reving, but never while holding it there. It seems to be louder from under the car or just from the side, just like the loose plug sounded. The oil pressure is still the same about 40-45 idle so I'm not thinking spun bearing or lifter. Could it be a bent pushrod or somehing like that? I don't understand what happened since the car was fully warmed up. I didn't over rev and never missed a gear or anything like that. I'm at a loss here and I need some help. Should I not drive it until I pull the valve cover and check everything out?
Thanks in advance,
John

Eventhough I didn't over rev? I also find it wierd that it is more pronounced when it's held at 1k and kind of breaks up sometimes almost going away while the revs go up or come down. And by the way this is all while the car is idleing, it's hard to hear while driving but it's still there.

Pull the valve covers and go from there......
Can you isolate to where the sound is coming from?
No, I would not drive it until you find the problem. Your asking for problems if you continue to drive.

OK some new stuff I noticed. When using a mechanics stethoscope, it seems to be loudest on the third primary on the drivers side. But when I put it to the valve cover or at least what little of it I can in that area closest to the intake manifold I can't really hear it. It almost comes and goes with the revs, but it is definitely always there and loudest when lightly coming down and or holding right around 1000. I pulled that plug wire and it seems to still make it, although it is hard to tell because the coil is still sparking making a tick. Could it be a bet push rod or loose rocker even if I can't hear it on the valve cover with a stethoscope? I'm really hoping it isn't a lifter on its way out
thanks again for any input

Anybody have any opinions on my new observations with the stethoscope?? I dont want to go through the hassle of taking out the push rods if thats not even the case, especially since i barely hear it from the engine compartment, but just more so from under or on the side of the car, or like i said on the header primary with the stethoscope. Just kind of in a bind here since it is my DD and i still have 3 weeks in this semester.
thanks again guys

I have that EXACT same situation. I have pulled the covers and all my pushrods are fine. I have decided it is an exhaust leak in my situation. I say this because It is not comming from heads, all my plugs are on nice and snug, and it seems to be comming more from under the car. I hear it best when I stick my head under the car. It is still loud as hell when just standing outside or when I drive next to others cars, buildings, curbs, etc. I hope this helps...

How long has it been doing it? I guess i'll still pull my push rods anyway just to be sure. Have you changed the oil since? I am also thinking maybe my oil thinned. Running m1 0w40 only 1500 on it but its been in there for about 5-6 months and has a lot of cold starts and i usually let it warm up for at least 10 min when its that col until driving. Which i just read somewhere idleing isn't good for your car or oil so who knows.

Was this noticed before or after the install? Just a cam? New heads? Headers tightened down? Checking the pr's is a piece of cake compared to pulling the heads. What kind of timing are you running? More info.

mine does the same thing been chasing it for a few months. Mine almost sounds like really loud injectors. Could they make this sound? Kinda afraid to really get on the car because of it. If anyone finds out what it could be post up.

With mine i put the stethescope to all the injectors and all sounded normal. I can barely hear it in the engine compartment just from the side or underneath. Def not an exhaust leak because i dont really hear it when its under a load. I still find it wierd i hear the sound with the stethescope on the 3rd header tube, but not so much on the valve cover.
