Carburated LS1 ------------------------
okay so i have a second gen blazer 2door 2wd and i really want a V8- preferably an LS1- the oprotunity has arisen for me to purchase a 1998 LS1 for $500 WHICH IS AN AWSOME DEAL- the motor with a lid and exhaust has put down 340whp- YES I KNOW UNbeleivable but i was @ the dynoshop when it put down the 340whp and they ran it twice to make sure came out @ 338whp.
Motor has 170k miles on it and of course it will be rebuilt before it goes into my truck-
But my main Issue is to Carburate this motor- 1 because the cost involved in the wiring harness and getting someone to wire it all and everything else associated with it- Because i can just use the JAGS that run SBC v8 swap kit and put this motor right into my truck and then not have half the work of wiring it up plus i will still have the power of an ls1
I dunno if their is a good carburator cam- but i was thinkin maybe an LS6 cam but then i think i might regret it and go ahead and get a 236/236 w/ 112 LSA cam which would lope like a son of a gun. What is a good cam in the middle with a slight lope-
MY goal is 500whp on a 125 to 150 shot of spray- I think im gonna put stock pistons/rods back in but with all ARP studs/bolts and molley rings. But as far the valvetrain should i do anything because with an NX 125 shot all i will need is 375whp all motor which isnt to hard to get.
SO main things-
To caburate or not to
What cam for slight lope and good power
375whp all motor and 500whp on spray
What tranny? built 700r4?
What parts other than cam for 375whp

Cam only 375 hp is no sweat, you will need to put a set of springs on it, and I would consider headers to make that # a little easier.

Here is an article on carbed LS1's
http://superchevy.com/technical/engi...sc_conversion/
I remember reading somewhere they had one put out 600+ hp with bolt ons and a carb setup.

i've got a carb and fuel pump that you would need for a carb ls1
i was going to do this also but with a 408 solid roller and high compression but i decided to stick with EFI and procharge the 408...
i decided to stay with efi because of the wiring and rewiring and it would have destroyed my "street" car

the edlebrock timing thing is junk it only has set chips in it... get the gmpp single plane and the msd timing box... it comes with pro-data software and chips to get you in the "ball park" and then cutom tune your own timing curve via laptop.

im almost positive it doesnt come with the pro-datat software and only includes the supplied timing curves...
the msd box includes the software and you can set your timing curve according to your motors individual needs..
the edlbrock box can do some of the features but not all the msd can.

Chevrolet 262-400 Small-Block V8
VICTOR JR. LS1 (3500-7500 rpm)
For Chevrolet LS1 V8 Carbureted Applications
With an operating range of 3500-7500 rpm, this high-rise single plane intake is capable of supporting up to 600 hp. Like our Performer RPM LS1 intake, the Victor Jr. LS1 accepts a square bore carburetor and comes with an electronic timing module that picks up MAP, crank position, and cam position in order to drive the stock Coil-on-Plug ignition system. This module also offers a choice of several built-in timing curves, each tailored for engine displacement, cam profiles, and fuel grades. Includes a throttle bracket designed to work with 700R-4, 200R-4 and Turbo 350 transmissions. Most applications will require hood modification.
Victor Jr. LS1 Carbureted Intake Manifold and Timing Control Module #2908
Installation Notes: Uses LS1/LS6 style individual port o-ring seals. Crankshaft sleeve #HP3795 and Flexplate #HP4004 is recommended when using a TH350, TH400 or 700R4 on a LS1; these items are available through Hughes Performance retailers or you can call Hughes at 800-274-RACE. See manifold reference dimensions. Victor Jr. LS1 EFI also available with electronic fuel injector bosses.

You gotta believe me on this one.
I HAVE that controller and it works with the pro-data software. True it doesnt come with the software but you can download it
http://www.msdignition.com/1softdownload.htm
right there.
Seriously the instructions that come with the edelbrock kit are the ones for the 6010. Same exact thing as the 6010 with the "wiring harness".
I even called both MSD and Edelbrock tech support and they both literally said it is the exact same controller with a different sticker on it.

???? Maybe their "early" models did.....
I have "connected" to the controller with the program. I havent "run" the car with the program I just tried to see if it would "see" it. I will start the car this weekend and make sure all the functions are there.
I will post here one way or the other....I gotta say if it doesnt work me and Vic are going to have a MAJOR problem
