Low oil light?

Low oil light? How many qt's are gone before the light comes on? Seems like mine comes on every couple hundred miles before I need to add various amounts of oil

well my oil light came on in my old z28 when it was to late,it was 3 quarts low,it blew up befoer the light even came on,it was the dealerships fault the never serviced when i drove the car off the lot..
