Default Does a 408 require a new front and valley cover?

My buddy just got a new 408 and it came with a new valley cover and a front cover with some sensors and a harness. I thought only the LS2's had this. His stock valley cover won't fit but the front cover will. there are also no knock sensors in the new valley cover.

Why won't his stock valley cover fit? what kind of block is this?

My 408 took front and valley cover off my old forged ls1 block just fine.

The 'cups' for the knock sensors are hitting inside the block. The back of the block and vally cover don't match up either. The front of the block says 6.0L so I'm clueless.

Could this be an LS2 402 and not a 408?

will have to check the numbers on the block. I'm pretty certain this is an iron 402 (instead of a 408)with 6.0 liter heads instead of ls6 heads. I think he got the wrong motor. This is par for the course. We've both had nothing but problems with 2 differant big name shops this year.

If I got an aluminum 402 for a iron 402/408 price I sure as hell wouldn't complain.
