Default Rocker arms hitting Valve Covers?

Can anyone explain to me how this could start happening?

I got an e-mail from the place that is fixing my motor, and they told me that after the rebuild, the rockers were hitting my valve covers (VC) and apparently they have been doing so since I had the heads installed at another shop. (May 05)

When I was cam only, everything was fine. I know because I broke 3 springs and replaced them and then finally replaced them all. I cleaned everything, and there were no marks on the VC's.

My heads are AFR 205's milled to 61cc's, and they have the upgraded springs. Since the head install the car has been driven maybe 500 miles as I have been in Africa and Korea. Can someone explain how the rockers could start hitting the VC's for me please.

Is this common on AFR headed cars? Or is it just valvetrain geometry related?

Ben

what he said. what size pushrods? what year car? 98's are most apt to do this with aftermarket rockers.

It's an 01 vette. Yes, stock rockers.

I believe the rodw were 7.4. Can't remember anymore.

They shouldn't, I would PM Tony Mamo and get his input on what to look for. This is the first time I have heard of this and the AFR's run the Crane rockers without problems and they require a little more clearance than stock. Best bet is to speak directly with Tony.

Good luck. Make sure you post what you find out.

I should have the specs on the rebuild in the next few days. Once I do I will post them up.

Ben...

What's hitting exactly and where?

A couple of high res. digital pics (use the macro setting for clean close ups) would go a long way here. If you could make that happen, email them to tony@airflowresearch.com

I had to clearance my stock valve covers with the bulkier Cranes but the stock rockers should fit no problem assuming proper valvetrain geometry and reasonably close pushrod length. Again, very curious where they are hitting.

Look foward to your reply....

Tony
