Default Oil Pressure???????????????

I have a 383 stroker in my vette, the oil pressure is low. I spoke with the previous owner who had the engine built, and he said it's always been lower than normal since the engine was installed. I have heard that with Federal Mogul bearings, oil pressure runs somewhat lower. The car does not smoke. Or the next thing that I could think of is when they installed the engine they either 1, did not put the o-ring on the oil pickup tube, or 2, pinched the o-ring. I am posting this over the reasons this could be happening. I appreciate any suggestions.

Could be an o-ring issue, bearing clearances, or even the oil used. I'd put in some GC 10w-40 and see what the pressure looks like after that. Then go from there.

What is the guage reading? You might also try a different brand oil filter. I see 4-5 PSI difference between fram and ac delco (fram being the lower)

K&N 2006 (truck filter) is what I run on my f-body, not sure if it will work on the 'vette though. I noticed a boost in the pressure when I switched from the Fram.

You can also yank the oil pump for a new ported one and shim the hell out of it.

Thanks a bunch Blur, I will be doing this as soon as I get home in 4 1/2 weeks. I don't think a truck oil filter will fit on the vette. I am use to the rule on my pervious cars of 10 p.s.i. for every 1000 rpm. I'll get this one there...

Well, it doesn't necessarily depend on the parts in the engine as it does what your builder puts the clearances at. That will dictate a lot of where your native oil pressure should be, but you can raise/lower it using diff oil/filters/pumps/etc.
