Default ? AFR Stage 3 205's w/ TR224 cam?

I have a chance to get a set of Stage 3 ported AFR hedas from TTP for a good price. They are milled.030, Matt said the CR would be about 10.9. My question is are these heads wrong for a small cam. I am running a TR224. I don't want to lose any low end TQ, or tip in/throttle response. Anything I should be concerned about? P/V clearance on a stock block?

Thanks,
Dave

you shouldnt have any P/V clearance problems with that cam... the TR224 is a tried and true cam. with a good tune you should make around 400 rwhp with supporting mods and be pretty tame as far as driveability goes

Id get the same cam with x-er lobes. The added lift will help take advantage high airflow of the heads.

You should be well into the 400s with that cam and AFR heads. The power in my signature is made with only a 224/228 cam.

I know I will be over the 400 mark, the question is on the Stage 3 port job. Will the porting on the AFR's effect my low end Tq, and Throttle response? I wanted to know if stage 3 ported AFR's are wrong for a small cam. (that I already have in the car)

I wouldn't run Stage 3's with that Cam. Standard 205's milled .030 will do.

Don, The price is just great on a used set he has. Is there a downside on the Stage 3's for my set up?

your 224 cam may not keep up with the extra air flow the heads are giving you. thus leaving power on the table. h/c setups means the cam must match the head flow to get a killer result. sound slike you need to up the cam profile. my .02

I would imagine you would loose some low-end and throttle response. It seems like you're a little worried about this, rightly so.

What can it hurt to try them? Are you doing the install yourself? If they really are a killer deal, buy them and try them. If you are not happy with them, trade them off or sale them.

You could also build a stroker to help your parts 'mismatch'.

Oh, let me add this.

Run your DCR at the limit as it will help low-speed output. Just keep in mind if you're going with a bigger cam, you'll have to flycut later on.

Yes,that is why I said "I would not recomend them".
Get the TSP PRC small runner head (200cc).Those will work and make sure compression is 10.8-1 or more.

Someday you WILL listen
