Default How can I tell if compression is low?

Would I hear anything obvious or feel anything? A friend told me to get my compression checked to make sure my motor isn't bad. If the compression is off, can it be retuned or is this a catastrophic problem? My car runs fine but seems to backfire a lot after I put the cutout on the exhaust.

Default

to check compression you need to do a compression test. I would also do a leakdown test so you can tell where the problem is at.
