Question Engine build literature

As a first timer about to tear his engine apart to replace heads and cam, what are the best resources available to me?

I know of the LS1HowTo write up, but what else will I need. Will a Haynes or Chilton's manual provide enough info(torque specs, etc) or will I need the GM service manuals?

Thanks.

There is no substitute for the GM Service Manual set, money well spent in my opinion. It will also give all the DTC diagnostic procedures and the body, transmission, brakes, etc. I find that the aftermarket (Chilton for example) just pull stuff from the GM manual and may not be specific enough by year. For example, on the Vette the tire sensor torque value changed in 2001, not sure if the aftermarket manuals would pick this up.
