Default Just Called Comp Cams....

About Patrick G's cam(I have no doubts about it as I'm still going to purchase it) but all they had to say was that it is strictly a racing cam and that it will cause my heads to warp and my block to crack if I put it in and only change out the valve springs to comp 921's. They also say there's no way I could make the cam streetworthy. I know different but just thought I would share their opinion. Instead they suggested I go with a 210 or 218 duration cam with 540's on lift and 115lsa and NOT change the stock junk valve springs OR get tuning OR a converter other than stock. I was so shocked I had to end the conversation.

Not trying to flame just see if anyone can see where they are coming from on the response to the cam size.

228/232 .588/.592 110lsa +1 on XE-R lobes.

I'm putting my faith into Pat G personally and gonna take his word that its streetable even with an A4 and am going to put in a TCI, Fuddle, or Precision 3200 converter with it.

you need to quit flirting with the secretary and talk to the tech line.

what exactly did you ask/tell them in which they give you such an answer?

Sounds to me like they need to put down the crack pipe. I just had this cam installed with the cam kit from TSP, with PRC dual springs. This cam is VERY streetable and I love it, can't wait to get some heads to go with it. Also has a nice lope to it. Here's a soundclip of it.

I have called Comp numerous times in the last two years, their tech support is horrible. I won't even call them anymore because you can't trust any answers they give you. Pretty pathetic when you think of what a major player they are in the industry.

Warped heads and a cracked block huh? Funny how the cam has no effect on either of those things. Comps tech line is a joke. Their going to reccomend their ity bity shelf cams for everything and tell you that anything else is junk. I have full faith that they give there tech line jobs to the mentally handicapped, seriouslly.

Thats retarded. I'm running a 231/237 .598/595 from tsp and its great on the street. Of course I've got all new heads and need some gears. I even taught my wife how to drive stick on it. Takes a little getting use to revving it up to 2k before you let off the clutch

Maybe it was close to lunch or quitin time? You cant always expect to get their top tech on the "cam help hotline". Give them another shot or just tell them what you want I am sure they will sell it to you!Just curious what do you have and what do you intend to do with it?

lunati isnt much better with their tech line, when i did my last motor i called them about a cam and they came up with a 230/232 .565 .565 114lsa for a 11.0:1 395ci stroker with a 6 speed and 3.73 gears. i just told them ok and i would be back in touch, needless to say i went elsewhere.

Yea, I don't know what to say about comp's 'cam help' line. I talked to them a few days ago to try and get some info on the LSK lobe. You can probably guess how that convo went.

The guy told me that a 220 XER was an 'all out race cam' and that the LS1 couldnt clear anything larger.

Pretty sad really...

If you get an answer you don't like, call back and get a second opinion.

But I'd also be curious to know what was asked to get an answer like that.

Comp Cams tech support is a f'ing joke. They must have the higher ups kids working their tech lines.

Calling Comp Cams for tech advice is no different than asking my 4 1/2 year old son...

They are retarded....I am running that exact cam and my car is amazing on the street and strip...........mostly the street compared to what I was running before. You can hardly tell the car has a cam at idle yet I am still making over 305RWTQ from 2250rpm's up on a stock block. I ordered mine from LS1speed and they had it made and to my house in 3 days. (I paid for overnite shipping).

Make it happen kid.............you will love it!!!!

Thanks, J.R.
