Default LS2 heads on an LS1?

Would I benefit much from putting ls2 heads onto a pretty much stock ls1?

How much power would I gain from doing this and should I get them ported before putting them on? This would be with stock or maybe mild cam.

LS2 heads are 243 casting. These are the same as LS6 casting. Difference is that LS6 have lightweight valves and that LS2's have solid stainless. Otherwise they are the same.
You can pick a set ported for under $1000
Look at Patriot, PRC (TSP) etc...

Dont they have a smaller chamber for higher compression? Would this cause any problems with an ls1 and would I be able to tune it with a predator?

Yeah they are aproximately 62>64 cc
Predator can tune.
Like I said, contact Zach at TSP for some stage 1 243 casting quote, also check Gunnar at Patriot. You can't go wrong with either.

What is the difference between the ls2 heads and the ls6 heads? Which one would I be better off going with?

You would be better off with the LS6 as you can get them for around $1k from TSP or Patriot. If you already have LS2 heads, you may be able to have someone port them for you, but I would just assume sell them and buy some TSP LS6 heads.

My bad. I should have reread.

The reason I am asking is because ebay has got a set of ls2 heads for sale. Hopefully I can get them pretty cheap. It also says that ls2 heads are just ported ls1 heads with extras. So could I port them again or is this a bad idea

Also, what would be a good cam with this set up. It is a daily driver and my only car (college kid) I read the stick on cams and am still somewhat lost

LS2 heads are not ported LS1's. Each type of LSx Head uses a casting number. And when the LS2 GTO's/Vetts hit the streets we found out the LS2 head Numbers are 243. 243 Also happens to be the SAME casting number for LS6 heads. Thus LS2 Heads = LS6 Heads. (Read above for the slight diffences between whats being put on GTO/Vett, and what came on the Z06)

With that being said, if you going to buy a set a heads and want to do a cam swap, why don't you just go ahead and buy some CNC heads from a vendor and do it once. You can get a basic CNC on NEW 243 Castings starting at 899. As for a cam choice, well you'll have to decided that but use the search and look for threads that talk about the 224/224 cam, good all around cam.

I was planning on going with some qtp's or xs headers in my camaro. Would these ls1 headers meet up right with the ls2 heads
