Default Thinking about swapping to Royal Purple!!

So how do you guys like Royal Purple? I'm currently using Mobile 1 5w30

Should I ditch it or use it?

Is there a better oil?

I think its good stuff. This isnt scientific at all and likely a flame bait statement but I've taken a few drops between my fingers and pinched and slid my fingers as hard as I could and it seems like Royal Purple has less resistance than Mobil 1. I even put it in my air compressor and its lasted for years.

You can get GC at Autozone here in the states.

That's pretty much the only place.

It really depends on how much you drive your car and how much money you have to **** up a rope. Some of these guys will say rp becuase they dont mind paying the bill for it. For the rest of us i say just get mobil 1.

0w-30 is too thin for my weather i think... i fall to like 22-25 psi with this oil at idle... after the engine is warm....

no problems at WOT though

if it is hot where you i would go with something thicker

Well, I ran Mobil 1 for 50k miles with good results, always happy. I changed it every 5-6k miles (highway miles). It always looked fairly dirty, not black but VERY dark brown. I just finished running RP for the first time. 6k miles (mixed hard driving) and it came out looking the EXACT same color that it went in. Even side by side on a white paper towel, you could hardly tell the difference from new. I'm sold.

I use AMSOIL in my CBR and I love it also. Cops here also use it (change every 18k miles) and it kicks ***. As good as any out there, IMO. Can't go wrong with either. The increased cost is offset by longer change intervals, more than offset actually.

If you change every 3k regardless, use the GC. Otherwise, synthetic is your friend. The only downside to synthetic is you may find a bit more leaking or burning than with dino. I don't leak any to speak of but will burn a quart every 5-6k miles. I have no smoke nor any other ill effects to performance so I am very happy with the way she runs. She even gets over 20 MPG on the highway with 3.42s. About 20 at 80-85 and significantly better if I keep it to 65-70, but who does that...

To me thats telling you that you aren't getting the cleaning effect of the Mobil One.

Possibly. I'd be even more likely to say the oil is more stable and holds its lubrication properties longer. I also might say that since I burn about a quart of oil every 5-6k, that RP burns cleaner. We'll see how that goes with my new PCV valve. I have always understood that cleaner oil, longer, is better. If someone knows something different, show me! Would love to learn.

I have heard good things about every oil mentioned in this thread. Personally, I think as long as you keep your oil changed regularly, then it does not make that much of a difference. Just my .02
