Default What Crank, help me decide.

Let me give you some background on what I have and where I am going.

Currently I have the following sitting around:

LS1 block Re-sleeved by Katech 4.060 bore

C5R Katech fully assembled and CNC ported cylinder heads

Jesel valvetrain

.895 pushrods

Custom sheetmetal intake manifold

Accufab 90 m.m. throttle body

Aeromotive fuel rails

JE custom designed for the ET C5R cantered valve cylinder head gas-ported pistons 4.060 bore

GRP aluminum rods and a race designed camshaft designed for this setup.

I am currently in the market for an F3r supercharger. I want to be able to drive the car on the street after all is said and done, although not often (weekends) and not at full boost (obviously). I am trying to built as good and reliable a setup as possible, and am currently looking for a crank.

I am personally leaning towards a Magnum Series Callies Crank. Tell me what you guys think. Is this the best out there or should I go with Lunati or Eagle. Thinks of the power the car will eventually be making when making your recommendations. Money is not really an issue, as I want to build a reliable engine.

So, let me hear it.

If money is no issue then Callies is the way to go. Next best is Lunati but I wouldn't go eagle with that much power.

BTW, your pushrods are less than an inch?

Since your buying other top end parts, I'd go with the Callies or Lunati, no need to short-change the crankshaft.

Thats what I was thinking too, I was pretty sure I wouldn't get the Eagle, I just wanted some opinions on whether the Callies was better than the Lunati.

Keep your opinions/preferences coming. Its not a cheap part so I want as much input as possible before I commit to the right part.

Lol, I was expecting to tell you to stick with the stocker. But the F3r is going to be putting down like 20psi along with your 4.060 block. I was going to say Eagle or Callies as well. Lunati is ***** to the wall expensive. But don't cheap out like Mike said. Especially since you are going to get in pretty deep $$$$$$.

Really you would go with an Eagle?

Any other input out there?

I would stick with either Eagle, Lunati, or Callies.

I have never heard of Cola so I am more than a bit reluctant to take it over Callies or Lunati.

Really, I think it is between those two so just give your vote as to which one you would go with keeping my future plans in mind..

Callies
v.
Lunati

With you looking to drive it on the street I would get rid of the aluminum rods as their life span isnt as long as a quality steel rod.

Keep the input coming.

I would go the route of H-beam on the rods.

An aluminum rod isnt really that much lighter than a quality steel one, they are designed to take the shock and soften the load on the crank compared to steel rods. That is the main reason to run the aluminum rods, not for weight purposes. I think any crank would do as long as it has a nice radius, thats why the stock crank is so tough. Eagle has good cranks, as long as you understand that they are not ready to install straight outta the box.

You won't go wrong buying a Magnum Callies.

Nothing against the Eagle's, we use a lot of them, but if it's not a budget sensative, high HP combo, I feel the Callies is better material, lighter, more detailed and significantly better on the tolerances.

Your not gunna go wrong with either Callies or Lunati. If you get the Pro billet Lunati, your looking at $2200, and I bet a high end Callies will run you close to the same, maybe a bit cheaper. Deffinatlly look into the steel rods, Lunati Pro-billets or Carillio's. For that much boost, that block wouldn't have been my first choice, but since you already have that and the pistons, I wouldn't worry. Katech does quality work, but a MID block would have been my first choice.
