Default 4.185 stroke

I just blew my motor so I'm doing research on the next. I want to go with a big cube alum lsx block. It will be resleved. Every block I have seen lists it fits up to a 4.000 stroke. What is needed to clear a 4.185 or a 4.125 stroke crank for a stock style block?

Default blocks

I had Darton make the sleeves longer, both wet and dry, to run with strokes up to 4.250". The increased sleeve length gives much needed support to the pistons at the bottom of the stroke.

Dry sleeves will work in either LS2 or LS7 blocks. Wet sleeves are for LS1, LS6 blocks.

The LS7 style dry sleeve fits either LS2 or LS7 blocks. Max. bore normally aspirated is 4.185".

I usually have LS2, LS7 and LS6 cores in stock.

would all my sl1 stuff heads etc. bolt up to the ls2? Where did you find a 4.250 stroke crank? How much would a ls2? block cost that is sleeved to fit 4.125 bore, that would also fit the 4.250 crank? My oil pan has holes in it so I will have to get another one. Will I need an aftermarket pan to clear the stroke?

Default Ls2

Everything will physically bolt up to the LS2 block. Head bolt lengths differ from the LS1 block. Late LS6 blocks are the same - head bolts are all short. The knock sensors are on the side of the block on the LS2 vs. the lifter valley. Cam sensor is at the front on the LS2. You need to use the LS2 front cover, timing chain set.

Oil pan is not a problem. You may have to shim the windage tray lower for rod clearance.

Where to find a crank? Callies, Lunati, Eagle.

If you get the sleeved block, your looking at almost $3k. The 4.185 stroke crank is made by Lunati only. The 4.250 is made by Lunati and Callies. That's another $2g's right there. The eagle comes in a 4.100", which is the most economical for less than a grand. You don't have to have a speacial oil pan. The stock one will work fine. FWIW, I have the Lunati 4.185" crank and LS2 dry sleeve from Steve. It's a nice combo, but very pricey.
