Bad night for me
I was driving last night and decided to open my bottle to see how much pressure I had in it. I had the master switch off to the system and it shouldnt have done anything but I guess the solinoid was stuck open. it jumped u to like 3000 rpm and locked there. I pulled over and shut it off. got out and noticed the nitrous line was frosted over and could hear it still hissing. shut the bottle off and it stopped. set there for a little bit looking things over but i dont guess it was long enough. still had nitrous and fuel in the intake. tried to start it and as soon as it turned over instant fire ball. blew pieces everwere. I just hope its only the intake and the rest of the motor is ok. Im at work today, but i will get some pics posted tomarrow.
anyone of you motor guys tell me what i need to be looking for in damages when i start tearing it apart probalby tomarrow if i can get it home. luckly i have never upgraded to a ls6 intake and if thats all thats wrong this will be a good time.

Be glad you don't have a aluminum intake. My buddy with a LT-1 396 had something similar happen to him, but his intake held and sent the charge out the air intake. Took out the MAF, shrapnaled the cold air intake, blew off the front quarter panel, and removed half of the front bumper. Also had plastic imbedded in his fiberglass SS hood. All this happened shortly after his $5k paint job was complete. Luckily it was just after his GMHTP spread. If all you lost was the intake, your lucky.

Holy ****! Damn. What were you thinking when that happened?
I dont even know what I would do if I heard my intake explode when I turned my key. Hopefully the bulk of us will not ever have to experience that.
Did you figure out if the rest of your motor is alright? Do a leakdown test and see if you bent any valves, but I doubt it.. since the intake relieve all of the pressure.

Damn that sucks! Hopefully the internals made it through alive.
A buddy of mine did that a few years ago on his LEASED cavalier. Ventilated the block and broke the crank in a couple places. He tried to warranty it

The first step is to pull the heads and see what's up.

holy poop!
I am glad I stoped running juice when I did.
Before tearing it apart... pump the cylinder full of air, listen to where the air is escaping. If you hear it in the exhaust, then u have a bent exhaust valve. If you hear it in the intake runner, then its the intake valve. If you hear it in the oil dip stick tube, its the rings.

if that ever happens again, unplug both coil harnesses under the fuel rail covers and turn the engine over for several seconds to purge out the nitrous......Sorry for the bad day!
Good luck to you!
