Default Cammed Guys..douse me with your wisdom!!

Alright so i got the $ and i want a cam...i want to go midsize..enough to have to change the springs/locks/retainers but nothing too crazy..car has all the mods in sig and is not a daily driver so keep that in mind. What is the right cam for me?

i would go with a 230 or 235 durationa with a .580 or .590 lift on a 112 lsa, check out ls1sounds.com and listen to some of the setups on there and pick one you like the best.

Do you want higher TQ, Higher HP gains, or a spread of both. I know that TR has a 232/239 cam thats pretty sweet. I personally love TSP. They have great stuff. I got the MS4, but that sounds bigger that you want to go. Just call up there and get a custom grind perfect for your every need.

I would ask Patrick G how to change his cam specs to work with stock heads, his car seems like it's pretty bad *** and driveable

i would say the tr228 or tr224. both have great power through out the band and your stall should be about right for it, and if you add heads later on you will be over the 400 whp mark easy. plus, though this may not bug you, but ive heard that with bigger cams where you have to rev into to upper rpms, you may run into tranny problems having an A4. but since its not your daily driver, get what ever you want. good luck.

since you said it wasn't a daily driver how drivable do you want it to be. I mean do you want something like stock or can you handle a little low rpm power/torque loss and some surge

We're going to need some of your input here:

In general;
Longer durations will give more power up top at the expense of the lower RPM power band.

Narrow LSAs will build power earlier but the curve will not be as flat and idle will be choppier

Higher lift will give more power at the expense of spring life

So where do you want your power to be concentrated, how often do you want to change springs, do you care about idle, emissions testing, etc.

I have a vid of my 232/236 XER in my sig. I don't think I would want this every day in an auto though.

224/228, .581/.588 112+1

Great midrange trq cam, pulls nicely to 6600+

My favorite (but more agressive)

228/232, .588/.592 110+1

My setup is near identical to the OPs, however Patrick G recommended:
228/232, .588/.592 110+4.

Why would you recommend the +1, and he the +4?

ok well i def want more power up top because i feel like ever since i got my coverter i lost some top end..which i would like to make up. As far as lsa goes..i was thinking like a 114 but almost everyone has been telling me a 112 will sound badass which I obviously wouldn't mind...overall i dont want to have to much mantainence as far as changing springs etc..i kinda wanna spend the $..get the power and go to the goddamn track!! asap lol

5>IVO
43>IVC....>6200/6300 peak
47>EVO...>good midrange trq
5>EVC
111>ECL
10>Overlap

Equidistant IVO/EVC from TDC to carry well after peak. (6600/6800 shifts)

Patrick (as you say)

0.050

110>LSA

8>IVO
40>IVC
50>EVO
2>EVC

10>Overlap

Frankly, I dunno, knowing Patrick I kinda find this strange, he is not a big fan of lots of advance in the grind, which usuly makes the cam more peaky and more exhaust biased. I know he likes to be around 1* intake biased from TDC (in general). Also the IVC of 40 would make the cam peak earlier like around 5900 or so.

Perhaps one of your criterias was to shift around 6200>6300 which would make sense.

I did ask for a cam that I wouldn't have to spin real high to make good power, so the +4 is suitable for that?

I recently put in the Trex and I love it. I DD mine and it pulls hard as hell and with the right tune I think it is very drivable.
