Default LS1 rocker arm assembly

Hey guys,
I've read a couple things on this and they don't match up. Should I use some Lock Tite on the bolt before assembling them? I've seen it mentioned and other times it's not.

Also, Do I need to get the #1 cylinder to TDC before tightening both the intake and exhast as well as 1/2 of the others (my Haynes manual says this)or can I tighten them all at once without having to rotate the engine to a certain point. I know they need 22 #'s but I've seen some say I had to rotate the engine and others just say to tighten them all with no mention to making sure they are up first.

Thanks for the help.

I've never used loctite personally and have never had a problem. You would probably get a more accurate torque reading by rotating all the rockers to the base circle of the cam before tightening, but again this is something I've never done and do not consider necessary.

So you've just tightened them randomly and not had any problems. Good to know. I'm just wondering if that can add to some valve train noise if they aren't all torqued to 22#'s.

The torque of the bolt has nothing to do with valve lash on this style valve train. The torque of the bolt is to simply hold the rocker in place so it does not loosen up. The only way you would have more valve noise is if the pushrods were the wrong length or the rocker came completely loose. Locite is reco'd by the factory but all I did was used thread sealer on the rocker bolts that screw into the intake ports on the heads.

what i did was use thread sealer on the threads of the intake rockers and blue loctite under the head of the bolts.

You only need thread sealer on ported heads (intake)

Thanks guys. Looks like the Haynes manual sucks then. My father in law is an old school mechanic so his information is only good for the gen I's really. I hope to wrap it up this weekend now.
