Default Should I buy new STOCK heads?

I have the crappy 98 heads on my TA, I was wondering what kinda of power gains i could expect with a pair of stock 243/241's ? also what would I have to do to fit them on my 98?

Not much of a stock to stock gain. You would need the updated MLS gasket and 99+ center bolt valve covers with coil brackets.

Whats wrong with the stock 98 heads. I have great power from my tired out 98.... 175k 340hp/350tq at the wheels with an m/6 lid, cat-back. I am keeping my stock head when i forged the motor, put in the big cam and spray the 200 shot. If you are going to invest into a head swap... go with something like PRC LS6 heads atleast!

241 heads will gain nothing, 243s on the other hand would be worth the investment. as usual, you were lead to believe that the 853 heads are total scrap and REALLY hold back the car...this is not the case. small casting differences between the 853 & 241 heads are hardly noticeable AT BEST. i would opt for some worked 243s, seeing that you have the t-rex. be prepared to flycut should you get larger valves and/or mill the head any.

I think that a mild port on a 243 would be excellent!

considering lots of sponsors have complete heads for under $1000 and soem heads/cam kits for $1300, if you are going to go through the hassle of doing it, just get a set of good heads and whatever cam you want and be done with it.
