I've done it two ways. You can use brake cleaner or you can get a bucket of soapy warm clean water and a gentle brush and scrub everything down well in the oiling holes and everything. Then rinse with clean water, and then blow dry with an air gun. You want to get the machine oil off and out of the camshaft and all the little recesses in the camshaft and heads. Not to mention you can't have anything too clean Eithor is an acceptable way, just keep in mind that eithor way you want to lubricate everything liberally with 30 weight engine oil while assembling.

For the heads, just use a hose, sponge, and degreaser. Dry them with a towel then sit them out in the son for an hour or so to finish drying. Then bag them up if you're not going to install them right away.

I use the brake cleaner method myself, then oil up anything that will be oiled upon assembly.
