Yes, ls blocks need to be re-sleeved to obtain your desiered bore. If you want a 398 you may as well look into an ls2 aluminum short block. A lot of the sponsors on the site can set you up with some nasty 40Xci setups, just do some research on it.

You can run a LS1 block out to 3.905" and use a 4.125" stroke crank to obtain 396 cubes.

Thanks,for the response,
I am going to build it myself,I haven't built one yet.I am leaning toward a Eagle assembly all forged of course.I figure I can build a 398 or so cheaper than a new Ls7 crate motor.

Beast96z,you have a 454 ls2,what bore/stroke combo is that.

You'll have a hard time getting 398 cubes out of the stock LS1 sleeve, espeacially with the Eagle's shorter 4.100" stroke. However, If I were to build another stock sleeve LS1 motor, that's what I would use. 3.905"x4.100". My 454 is a 4.150" bore x 4.185" stroke. It's Actually 453 cubes, but whose counting??

Default Block sleeving

Either the LS1 or LS6 blocks can be sleeved using Darton MID sleeves. Darton has two offerings for the LS1 block. The original design will go from 4.125" bore to 4.155" bore. A large bore version will go from 4.170" to 4.185" bore. The large bore sleeve is for the LS1 only, not for the LS6.

Sleeving will allow a much larger engine. The larger bore size will allow use of LS7 heads.

You can PM me for pricing.
