Default Is This Safe?

hey guys

I was wondering if its safe to rev and shift at 6500-6800rpm's?

I was told that the stock lifters max out at 6200?

here my post in the racing forum, not the greatest results

Ironically, I'm saying this while having a possible lifter issue, but the lifters should be able to stand up to that. The real concern is the rod bolts. However, the general consensus is that with an '01-'02 you have better rod bolts than with the earlier models, and can safely shift at 6800 RPMs. Earlier models should shift earlier like 6500-6600. This is all based on responses to this thread.

EDIT -- This is all under the assumption that you are not running the stock springs. The stock springs are definitely not good above 6200-6300 RPMs. You'll get valve float beyond that with stock springs.

Also, your sig doesn't say you have a cam, so why would you want to rev any higher? The stock cam will stop making power way before 6800 RPMs. Of course, your sig also says that you have done internals, so you probably don't have to worry about the rod bolts.

Did you see the part that says MS3 cam and Patriot gold springs? Maybe it was just added?

It was probably already there. I'm one of those guys that frequently gets caught looking around for their glasses when they're on his face. My bad.

only internal mods are the cam, push rods, seats/seals, and springs

People do it. ARP rod bolts are a good idea though.

hurm, yeah i really don't want to tear the thing apart just to get a few more RPM's outa it. its a street car, i just take it to the track once and awhile

the guys on the racing forumn are tearing it all apart b/c i wasn't shifting high enough

so now I'm trying to figure where is a safe place to shift at.....SAFE since its a street car, i'm not going ***** to the wall

plus i will be spraying it eventually, if i ever clean up my wiring mess to my satisfaction

I recommend looking at your cam profile and see where the horsepower and torque peaks in the RPM band to determine your best shift point, which can be verified on a dyno. For example, if your cam peaks at 6000 RPMs, why rev it to 6600 where you're beyond the peak area of the power band? Just a thought.

Why rev it to 6600? Because on the upshift, you'll be higher in the powerband when you let out on the clutch.

Studytime has a very good point. When the clutch is let out, the motor will be at a higher RPM and usually, with a cam, be making more HP.

I called Texas Speed, they normally see max HP around 6500rpm's
slightly below that actually, but thats where he shifts at, with his rev limiter at 6700

I have my limiter set to 6800, shift-lite comes on at 6600. I'm sure I'm getting really close to the limiter, but I want to, cause my car peaks at 6400, and when I let out for the shift, it's pulling like no tomorrow.
