Default Cam swap info needed

Hello,

I tried the search function and it appears to be down. I need some help with a cam install. I have a 226/226 .585/.585 112lsa cam I am going to install on my 1998 Z28 as far as I know it has stock valve springs, oil pump, etc. etc. I bought it used so it is hard to tell what has been done without looking which I havent yet.
The car has 85,000 miles on it and I think I should replace the Oil pump and timing set while I am at it, I also need valve springs as well. What else do you guys that know suggest? Should I try the spring swap with the heads on the car? New valve stem seals? New retainers? Pushrods?

Longtubes and an LS6 intake are also in the future as well as a dyno tune. Possibly a TCI streetfighter 3000 stall 2.7 str.

The car also has an slp lid and dynomouth exhaust, 3.42 gears, automatic 4l60e.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Stephen

Call TSP or who ever u want. Get thier springs they come with seals and ti retainers. Get timing chain oil pump and crank bolt. Then go get 5/16 rods to hold up the lifts. Then get the tool to change springs on engine. Use air to hold up valves.

if you're changing springs.. change the locks, and valve seals as well.. valve seals can be had from Thunderracing.com and cost only $16.. valve locks are .50 cents each..

you will need springs that can handle at least .600 lift if your lift is .585.. so comp 918 springs are in order.. or their equivolent.

timing set you can also get from Thunder.. a GM set will be 44$

dont forget all the gaskets you will need... front cover gasket, front seal gasket, water pump set, steam vent gasket set, possibly intake manifold set of 8 gaskets (if yours are shot)

I, like you, have a 98 LS1 6 speed with 111k miles, and i just bought all this stuff yesterday from thunder, im swaping the cam, timing, and heads (241 casting).

oh yeah.. hardend push rods would be a BIG plus.. since you have a 98.. you might consider changing your roller lifters.. Scoggin Dickey sells the new updated LS7 versions that will work on LS1's for 99$ for the complete set.

(damn.. all this stuff add's up fast.)

Order a couple of extra locks... they fly off during the changeout sometimes.

Thanks N4cer,

Also should I take the ac condenser out? Wondering if that would make things easier space wise.

Yeah, I don't know if you can even get the cam swapped with it in there if you're using cam rods on the end to help with leverage.
