Default too much oil press?

is it bad to have too much oil press? i started to pay attention to my oil press gauge since ive been keeping up with the "should i really switch to GC/amsoil/royal purple/redline/walmart brand/anything but m1" threads. i havent noticed any "sewing machine noise", and ive never had oil consumption problems. it gets m1 full synth 10w-30 every 4k miles. i just noticed since ive been paying attention in the last week or so that my press guage reads 48-ish at idle, 2k rpms cruising reads around 60-ish, 4k rpms cruising reads around 73-ish, and on a hard pull all the way up the tach its nothing for it to peg the gauge...any thoughts? im just trying to make sure somethings not amiss before i have bigger problems...

thanks
-cam

Mine is kind of similar. I have around 40-50 when at idle, 60 just cruising, and at WOT it gets close to the 80 range.

There is a point where you'd spin a bearing as the oil is moving too quickly past the bearings to lubricate them. But that point wouldn't be reached until well after 100psi. The 03/04 Cobra 4.6's run very high pressure, a little higher than your car. If a mechanical guage does indeed verify your high oil pressure readings, the clearances must be pretty tight. If it were my motor, I'd just run a regular 30wt synthetic like Mobil 1 5w30 year round.

Just for reference:

Cold start = 70-75psi
Warm = 60psi
Hot/cruise = 50-55 psi

Ported LS6 oil pump.

Cold idle: just over 60 psi
Hot idle: just over 40 psi
70+ psi anywhere over 3000 rpms.

NastyTA easily pegs his oil pressure gauge too and he's running 7-800 hp with his turbo. I'd say you're quite fine.
