Default TR224 users....which heads did you go with?

The car is a 98 Z28 with a few minor mods:

LS6 intake
TR224 112 LSA
Comp 918 springs
Hardened pushrods
LS6 ported oil pump
Stainless Works Headers with cats, 2.5" Y pipe
B&B Triflo exhaust
QTP cutout
NGK TR55IX plugs
Taylor 10.4mm wires
ASP Pulley
IWIS timing chain

The rest is just suspension stuff....

So anyhow...right now I am pushing a measly 375 rwhp and 367 rwtq, this was on a dynojet dyno, but on a rather hot and humid day,...and uhm...the tuner was sick and not in a good mood....lol. Now, I heard the 98 heads are pretty much the worst flowing heads out there, so I am guessing getting any set of aftermarket heads will give me a fairly decent performance boost.

Really, all I am looking for is to break that pesky 400 rwhp barrier. What heads do you guys recommend that would match my cam the best? Also, I assume I will need new valve covers since the bolt patterns are different between the 99 and up and 98 cars?

Thanks in advance!

Manny

I'm holding out for AFR's. My #'s are similar to yours. 382rwhp 366rwtq. Add an underdrive pully and you should see 10rwhp & 10rwtq.

AFR 205's here and was able to put down 421 WHP and 403 TQ SAE corrected without milling the heads and using a stock GM gasket. If you take the time and do every little thing right, like milling the heads and getting the optimum quench you will probably see more. Good luck.

EDIT: My mext motor will be done right.

What do you mean by "not as good as the 224/224? Your cam is a bit bigger, not quite sure how to understand your question.

I have Patriot Performance heads with a TR224 114 and I put down 401 on a mustang dyno. I'm thinking that would be 420ish on a dynojet. I also have an ls1 intake, and cats.

Are you passing the sniffer test with that cam and head combo?
I always wondered if heads would make a car fail the CA smog tests...

Although it will probably be years before I can afford heads and a cam

I have a split duration 224/228 581/588 on a 110 LSA. With a set of ported 241 casting heads with a 12 bolt rear and 4.30 gears and a Denny's nitrous ready driveshaft I put down 452rwhp and 408rwtq. If I had a stock rear with stock gears and a stock driveshaft those numbers would have been a lot higher. I think a very well matched combo of everything you put on the car is the best plan. Many will say that a set of aftermarket heads would make even more on my combo. I'm not willing to take that chance to see if I will make less ,the same , or more. Take your time in picking a set of heads, do a lot of searching and reading others dyno results to get idea's of what to do and what not to do. I would go with a set of ported 215 ET performance heads, but thats just me. Search threw dyno results

AFR's are smog legal, but i have been told that ls6 stage III heads flow better then AFR 205's and are a lot cheaper...I want bare heads because I will assemble but whats the price of a set of bare AFR 205cc heads

I have picked up another 22 rwhp and 34rwtq NA since the last time I was at the track. I ran a 11.2 against the wind at full weight. I'm going to pull a little weight and hope to get it in the 10's NA. I was also very rich on the spray before and gained a ton with the retune on spray. The car will be going back to the track very soon . If all goes well it should be 10's NA and 9's with spray but I may be wishing for to much on the spray. I'll post my track results here when the time comes
