Default Heads with a CheaTR

I am familiar with TR's package deal that includes AFR 205s but they're pretty expensive. I was thinking with more budget in mind if I can afford to have it installed and tuned at the same time. I was thinking of going this route, living in CA, and keeping the exhaust stock for now. I don't want to sound too 'noob' but will aftermarket heads affect smog? I know threesixes just skimped by with this cam and some Patriot Heads in CA. I can only run 91 octane so I suppose I won't be able to get heads that raise compression or I'll start knocking.

I actually have Patriot heads in mind as they seem to have good customer service but I'm not mechanically inclined and there are so many numbers involved in H/C that they make no sense to me. So when I visited their site I really don't get what makes their LS6 style heads different from their 5.3 (5.3s will raise compression right?) and what the different stages are.

Last question, later down the road after a smog perhaps, any guesstimates of power increase with headers and a new Y with HF cats?

Go with a set of our LS6 2.02"/1.57"/64cc heads. These will raise your compression to 10.5-1. This will be fine on 91 octane. Here is a link to a customer who recently used this set up. https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ight=cheatr%27

I had very good luck with a set of PRC 5.3 2.5 heads with this cam. They made 430rwhp/410rwtq on a wore out stock shortblock, along with all the bolt-ons.

How do AFR 205s affect compression ratio? Stock is 10.1:1 right?

GMPP LS6 heads or Texas Speed LS6's both flow very well and have made some nice numbers.
