Default Help me pick a cam for my cam only LS1

'02 vette. Engine has stinger intake, Kooks 1-7/8" LT's w/high flow cats. Presently does 335rwhp.

My car is used as weekend street car, my last vette had a 224-581-112 LSA cam and I was happy with it.

On this car I considering going bigger. 232/236. .588/.575 - 114 LSA. Will I lose loads of low end?

I have a TR 227/224 114 for sale if you're interested. $225 + shipping. Just a few thousand miles on it.

I built a car with a cam similar to the second selection 232/236 and it runs like a scalded ape!!!! I put stock LS6 heads on it and the cam with a 112 centerline with 2 degrees advance ground in. Through a LS1 intake the car put down 394 RWHP.

I highly reccomend the larger of the two cams, it should be extremely drivable and should not have much noticable cam surge.

Don't forget about cams in between those, like a 228/230, 230/232, etc.

maybe go for something a little bit bigger.

try these 2 LSK lobes:

intake: #2131 243 .653"
exhaust: #2132 247 .656"

that'd be a 243/247 .653/.656, put it on a 111+1 or +2

the LSK lobes usually end up a little bigger than advertised though.

233/239, That is the cam that I am really thinking about, maybe the MS3....

It's all up to wht you really want...Since it's a weekender then why not go for a large cam and a nice set of heads...Tune it out and have fun with it.

Why in the world are you guys telling him all these big *** cams?

I added the Custom section just to let people express and not be forced to choose 1 of the 2 cams listed. I think that you should look into a custom cam myself. Probably a lower 230's duration like 230/232 on a 114 so you have a wider spread of power and not a lot of lowend loss.

You can consider this "228/230 0.639-0.592 @112LSA-112ICL LSK/XER" very seriously to reach your goals and match the best of both world, Daily driving and Performance driving in a single match according the last research of Patrick G.

- No flycut needed....
- PRC Platinium Dual Spring.... (works to .670 with LSK lobes)
- IVC is 46° @ 0.050, optimum LS1/LS6
- Only 5° of overlap @ 0.050 which gives a lot of mid range torque

Take a look there to find what you are looking for :

custom comp 228/236, 588/578,114,ported heads, all bolt ons, very satisfied with 393 rwhp,352 tq, on a mustang dyno with a stall converter and 12bolt.Dyno jet numbers would be more like 432/387.
